Chris Eubanks Added to the 2023 Atlanta Open Singles Field


Doubles Field Also Announced for Annual ATP Tournament

 

ATLANTA (July 18, 2023)– The Atlanta Open has announced that Atlanta nativeChris Eubankshas been added to the main draw singles field for this year’s ATP tournament, scheduled for July 22-30, 2023 at Atlantic Station.

 

Eubanks has risen to a career-high world ranking of 31 after an impressive run at Wimbledon. His hot streak came to an end in the Wimbledon quarterfinals last Wednesday as No. 3 seedDaniil Medvedevrallied to win 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1. Eubanks captured his first ATP Tour title on July 1 at the Mallorca Championships in Mallorca, Spain. A two-time All-American at Georgia Tech, he also was two-time ACC Player of the Year.

 

“We’re thrilled to be able to add Chris Eubanks to the main singles draw from qualifying at the Atlanta Open,” said Peter Lebedevs, Atlanta Open tournament director. “He’s playing the best tennis of his career and we are excited to watch him compete in his hometown. Chris adds another talented name to our fantastic main draw.”

 

Doubles Field Announced

The Atlanta Open has also announced the main doubles field for this year’s tournament.

 

The doubles field is highlighted by the duo of Marcelo Arevalo and Jean-Julien Rojer, who rank 28thin the world as a doubles team. Atlanta native Ben Shelton is also in the doubles field, the former Florida Gator who advanced to the 2023 Australian Open Quarterfinals, becoming the youngest American man to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal since Andy Roddick (20) at the 2002 US Open. Shelton will play with Japan’s Ben McLachlan. Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis, who won the doubles title last year with Nick Kyrgios, returns to Atlanta and will play with South Africa’s Lloyd Harris.

 

University of Georgia tennis players Ethan Quinn and Trent Bryde have been extended a doubles main draw wild card invitation as well. The duo was ranked No. 3 in the nation at the end of the season among NCAA doubles teams.

The Atlanta Open announced its main singles draw of direct acceptances last week which includes top-ranked AmericanTaylor Fritz(No. 9), Atlanta Open defending championAlex de Minaur(No. 18), Atlanta nativeBen Shelton(No. 39), Japan’sKei Nishikori(former world No. 4), France’sGael Monfils(former world No. 6), and six-time Atlanta Open championJohn Isner(former USA No. 1), among others. Georgia Tech’sAndres Martinwill also compete as a wild card in the main draw.
